Ingredients

  • 3 small onions
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 3 cups raw unfiltered organic honey

Instructions

  • Prepare the onions and garlic. Onions should be peeled, sliced and cut in half. Garlic should be thinly sliced.
  • In a small saucepan, combine the onions, garlic and honey and stir until well coated.
  • Cook on low temperature for 1 hour, or until onion and garlic are softened and fragrant. Stir every 20 minutes.
  • Use a fine mesh strainer to remove onion and garlic from honey and transfer into air tight jars.
  • Allow to cool to room temperature before placing an air tight lid on top.

Notes

  • Use an even ratio: Be sure to stick with an even ration of cups of onions to cups of honey. Mine was 3:3.
  • Cool completely: Allow the syrup to cool to room temperature before placing the lids on the jars.
  • Store in the refrigerator: The cough syrup can be stored with the onions and garlic in the refrigerator for one week or with the onions and garlic strained out for up to three months.
