Ingredients

  • Cooking spray
  • 2 28–32 oz bags frozen tater tots
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 cup shredded cheese cheddar or Mexican blend
  • 1 tomato diced
  • 1 avocado diced
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 jalapeño thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup chopped cilantro

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F and lightly coat a large baking sheet with cooking spray.
  • Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single, even layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, turning once if desired, until the tots are crisp and golden brown.
  • While the tots are cooking, brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it up as it cooks.
  • Once fully cooked, drain off excess fat and mix in the taco seasoning following the package instructions.
  • Remove the baked tater tots from the oven and spoon the seasoned beef evenly over the top.
  • Scatter the shredded cheese over the beef layer.
  • Place the pan back in the oven for 5–7 minutes, just until the cheese melts.
  • Finish with tomato, avocado, sour cream, jalapeño slices, and cilantro.
  • Serve right away while hot.

Notes

  • You can pre-cook the tater tots in the air fryer instead of the oven to reduce the baking time slightly.
  • If you don’t prefer beef, feel free to use ground turkey, chicken, pork, or even a plant-based meat substitute.
  • Totchos are best made right before serving to keep them crispy, but you can keep any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days and reheat them in the air fryer or oven.
