Equipment

  • Woozy bottles

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 2 jalapeño peppers chopped (About ½ cup or more) *see note
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • Juice of 2 limes About 4 Tablespoons
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ cup water

Instructions

  • Begin by preparing the ingredients: slice the avocados, remove seeds and chop the jalapeño peppers, mince the garlic cloves, and rinse and dry the cilantro leaves.
  • In a blender or food processor, combine the sliced avocados, chopped jalapeños, minced garlic, cilantro leaves, lime juice, salt, pepper, and water.
  • Blend the ingredients until the mixture is smooth and creamy, adjusting the texture with additional water if needed.
  • Season the hot sauce to your preference with additional salt, pepper, or jalapeño for added heat.
  • Transfer the prepared hot sauce into clean jars or airtight containers, then refrigerate for storage, lasting up to a week.
  • Prior to serving, ensure to give the sauce a thorough stir to evenly distribute any separated ingredients.
  • Enjoy your delectably creamy avocado hot sauce as a delightful accompaniment for tacos, burritos, grilled chicken, eggs, or as a savory dip for chips or vegetables.

Notes

  • For less heat: If you don’t want your hot sauce as hot, remove the seeds and membranes from the jalapenos..
  • For more heat: To increase the heat level, be sure to include both the seeds and membranes from the jalapenos.
  • Choose ripe avocados: Ripe avocados will be dark green or almost black. They will yield slightly to pressure when gently squeezed, but should not feel hard or mushy.
  • Store in the refrigerator: Store the hot sauce in tightly capped woozy bottles or airtight glass containers in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Freeze in airtight freezer-safe containers for longer storage
  • Stir before serving: Be sure to thoroughly stir the sauce before serving to redistribute any ingredients that may have separated during storage.
