Ingredients
Whenever you are making a recipe with minimal ingredients, quality is key.
My #1 tip for making unforgettable mimosas is to properly choose ingredients. For this recipe you will need:
- Sparkling Wine : See guide below
- Orange Juice: Fresh squeezed is best, if possible
- Fresh Strawberries: Again, fresh berries are best but frozen strawberries will work in a pinch
Optional garnishes include extra fresh strawberries, orange slices and maybe even a sprig of mint.
See the recipe card for the exact quantities of each ingredient.
What Kind of Sparkling Wine is Best for Making Mimosas?
Many people automatically assume all sparkling wines are "champagne" and that champagne is required to make a mimosa. But that isn't true. Authentic Champagne is grown in the Champagne region of France and can be quite pricey.
Since we will be mixing our sparkling wine with juice, it is OK to use a less expensive option.
Here are my top recommendations:
- Prosecco: Prosecco is vibrant, fruity, and affordable. It's also a little sweeter than its counterparts.
- Cava: Cava is a little lighter with a flavor profile that is great for mimosas.
- Champagne: While a pricey option, champagne has an excellent minerality to its flavor if you are looking for a wine flavor to stand out.
No matter which sparkling wine you choose, be sure to choose dry, or “brut" which are less sweet in their flavor which makes them perfect to mix with the sweetness of the orange juice.
Equipment
Here are some of my favorite tools for making this pink mimosa at home:
- Citrus juicer: I love this little hand juicer. It comes with three-sized heads to accommodate grapefruits, oranges, lemons, and limes of all sizes.
- Champagne Flutes: I own a set of these Amazon flutes and love them. You could also go for a stemless option as well.
- Wine chiller or Ice bucket: I think these pink mimosas would be so cute at a baby shower brunch or wedding shower. When I serve these at a party, I love placing the bottle in an ice bucket to keep things cold for my guests.
How to Make Mimosas with Strawberry
Once you have all your ingredients and equipment ready, it's time to make mimosas!
- Start by placing the strawberries and orange juice in a blender or food processor. Pulse the mixture until a smooth puree begins to form. Be careful not to over-mix, just pulse until the consistency is to your liking.
You may get a bit of froth but don't worry, it will settle as it sits, and the stuff that doesn't can be scooped off or enjoyed - it's delicious!
- Next, pour the champagne flute half with champagne.
TIP: You can pour the puree in first if you would like, but since the sugar content is higher, it will end up sinking a bit and I find that adding the champagne first allows it to bubble up through the puree for a wonderful and evenly blended flavor.
- Finish making the strawberry mimosa by filling the remainder of the glass with the puree. As mentioned above, brut champagne will eventually bubble up towards the top.
- Now the fun part! Garnish your glass with fresh strawberries, orange slices, or mint sprigs for an extra special touch.
Variations
This recipe is the result of testing several ways to make a strawberry mimosa, but there are more ways you can make this tasty drink!
- Quick and Easy: If you can find a strawberry cocktail juice blend at the store, you can use it in place of the puree for a super easy recipe.
- Strawberry Mixer: Some versions I tested used a strawberry cocktail mixer. If you want a super bright red hue and an extra bold flavor, you can try using a strawberry mixer instead!
- Strawberry Mimosa Without Orange Juice: To make a strawberry mimosa without orange juice you can puree strawberries in a bit of water. Since you won't have the sugar from the orange juice in this option, it is best to use super ripe strawberries.
- Strawberry Mimosa Mocktail: Swap out the sparkling wine with sparkling water.
Storage
If you are lucky to have any leftover mimosa ingredients, it is best to store them separated. When sparkling wine is properly sealed, it will keep its bubbles for up to 48 hours. If pre-mixed with the orange juice, it won’t last that long.
