- Chicken: I used boneless, skinless chicken breasts for this recipe. You’ll need one pound.
- Seasonings: A combination of salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika are used to season the chicken breasts
- Canned Soup: I opted for a can of cream of chicken and a can of cream of mushroom soup. Feel free to swap either type or both with cream of celery, cream of bacon, or a homemade cream soup.
- Chicken Broth: Provides moisture and flavor as the chicken cooks.
- Diced Tomatoes: I used diced tomatoes with onions and chiles for a little kick, but you can use plain, fire-roasted, or any other type of diced tomatoes if you’d like.
- Cream Cheese: Thickens the sauce and gives it a smooth, creamy texture.
- Shredded Cheese: I used a combination of shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses.
- Spaghetti: While this is my favorite pasta shape for this dish, feel free to change things up by using penne, fettuccine, or linguine if that’s what you’ve got on hand.
See the recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts, nutritional information, and detailed instructions.
Variations
- Gluten-Free: Use gluten-free spaghetti and gluten-free cream of chicken and mushroom soups to make this recipe gluten-free.
- Spicy: Use spicy diced tomatoes, add some sliced jalapenos, or add a pinch of cayenne pepper to turn up the heat.
- Pesto Chicken Spaghetti: Stir in a few tablespoons of your favorite pesto along with the cheeses to add a bright, herby flavor.

Expert Tips
- Cook Spaghetti Al Dente: The pasta will continue to cook after it’s added to the warm sauce in the slow cooker, so cook it until it’s just al dente. Overcooking can cause the spaghetti to become too mushy.
- Shred Your Own Cheese: Fresh is best here! Pre-shredded cheese won’t melt as well as freshly shredded cheese due to the anti-caking agents used to keep it from sticking together in the package.
- Use a Liner: Line your crockpot with a disposable slow cooker liner to make cleanup a breeze!
Recipe FAQs
You can easily make this dish in a large oven-safe pot or Dutch oven instead. Prepare and bake the chicken and sauce in the pot with the lid on at 325°F for 1 ½ to 2 hours. When the chicken is done, transfer the pot to the stovetop. Continue to cook over medium heat, while following the remaining steps in the original recipe.
Yes, you can use boneless, skinless chicken thighs in place of the chicken breasts. Note that you might need to adjust the cooking time slightly, as thighs typically cook faster than chicken breasts. Then, shred them just like you would the chicken breasts.
